Intro

Hello, fans of space shooters (and everyone else too).

A few years ago, I decided to make a game inspired by the space shooters from the turn of the millennium, like Descent:Freespace and Freespace 2.

I spent a big part of my youth playing Freespace and had a ton of fun with it. At the same time, I’ve always enjoyed making games—and I’m lucky enough to do it professionally (at Warhorse Studios). Since I also enjoy programming and building game engines, I decided not to use an existing one but to write my own from scratch.

I already had some experience from earlier projects, so I wasn’t starting completely at zero. Pretty quickly I managed to put together a prototype where the player could shoot at enemies, who in turn tried to circle around and hit back with their cannons.

Over time, I started building a simple story in the evenings, and in February 2022 I released the first demo on Steam:

Unfortunately, right around the time of the demo’s release, Russia decided to invade its neighbor Ukraine. That event, together with the rather mixed reception of the demo, discouraged me from continuing development.

Now it’s 2025, and I’ve decided to start again. I’ve let go of the cold realism and instead I want to create a game that simply brings joy to the player. Something you can pick up after work or school, fly through space, and blast a few enemies in a straightforward setting with a light story.

So don’t expect a deep epic about human nature or the infinity of the universe. Expect explosions, plasma flashes, and fast-paced space action.

I’d love to share parts of the development with you—and hear what you think along the way.
